Nature is beautiful, and there’s no reason why it should be limited to the great outdoors when there are so many ways to bring it into our home.
In my experience, decorating with natural materials creates a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. There’s something about taking a relaxing stroll through the woods or across fields that gives us a sense of well-being and balance. By using natural materials in our modern interiors we can achieve that inside too.
Choose From a Broad Range of Materials
Wood, marble, slate, limestone and granite for instance, are all beautiful, practical and easy to source, and are frequently used in modern interior design. Some of these can be quite pricey, although they vary enormously from supplier to supplier, and over the huge range available. Natural materials can last an extremely long time if cared for and treated, so can be a very worthwhile investment.
The benefit of using other natural materials like jute, linen, limestone, bamboo, cotton and wicker is that they’re very eco-friendly. Synthetic materials have to go through a manufacturing process, which can cause pollution and have significant environmental impact. In addition, plastics are filling up our landfills but natural materials can be recycled or decompose quickly when thrown away. While there is a place for both man-made and natural materials, when you can, it’s rewarding to use ones that not only look good, but are also sustainable and benefit our environment.
No Limits to Natural
So, you’re probably thinking that there must be a limit to what is and isn’t made from natural materials. Well, I’m pleased to tell you there’s not. Carpets, wallpapers, paints, rugs, window treatments, furniture, bed linens, throws, floor tiles – so many things in your home could be natural if you desired! And there’s no sacrifice on style either; organic coir and rustic bamboo can be as stylish and fashionable as any synthetic flooring, or more conventional natural alternatives.
Natural is so often beautiful, and using these fantastic materials as part of your modern interior design means your home will always be a source of pleasure.
