Back in early June I wrote a post sharing some of the exciting events taking place in Bath. I love my city and could wax lyrical for days about all the wonderful things happening here. Instead I’ll try to keep it to just the odd post here and there. With that in mind, this is the autumn/winter edition of ‘a local’s guide’ to the best events in Bath.
If you thought summer looked good wait until you see what we’ve got in store for winter…

Marking the centenary of Kenneth Armitage’s birth is an exhibition of his work at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bridge Street. This is a huge exhibition, exclusive to Bath, featuring more than 65 of his sculptures. Read more about this exhibition here.
Bath Film Festival (3rd – 13th November)
Presenting its 26th annual programme of events, Bath Film Festival returns with “fresh features, world classics, emerging talent showcases, insider talks and special events.” Taking place at venues across the city, the festival offers new ways for the public to enjoy cinema. Bath Rotary Club Fireworks Display (5th November)
One of the best bonfire night celebrations in Bath is hosted by The Rotary Club at the Bath Recreation Ground. A family-friendly event in aid of charity. Tickets are available in advance here, but can also be bought at the gate.
Bath on Ice and Glow in the Dark Mini Golf (18th Nov – 3rd Jan)
A family favourite in the centre of Bath! An outdoor ice rink and mini golf with a difference to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. Located in the Royal Victoria Park in the centre of Bath, there is also a cafe and fully-licensed bar. To find out more and buy tickets click here.
Bath Christmas Market (24th Nov – 11 Dec)
No winter ‘what’s on’ list would be complete without a mention of Bath’s world-famous Christmas market. The market is the perfect place to do a spot of Christmas shopping with 170 stalls selling high-quality artisan goods. Even better, the majority of stallholders are from Bath and the surrounding region, so it’s a wonderful showcase of Bath talent. Items on offer include decorations, gifts, handmade toys, local artwork, jewellery and food & drink.
Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt Arboretum (25th Nov – 18th Dec)
Westonbirt’s trees light up against the night sky every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening between November 25th and December 18th. A magical one-mile illuminated trail through the arboretum for all-ages. Children can also meet Father Christmas and take part in Christmas craft activities. Rumour has it there will be a carousel too! Tickets must be bought in advance and can be done so here.
A History of Fashion in 100 Objects, Fashion Museum Bath (on display until 1st Jan)
A fascinating look at how fashion and history intertwines. This sounds like a great exhibition for anyone who loves fashion, design and history. The exhibition features pieces from as far back as the 1500s and showcases the works of famous designers. Find out more here.
