Georgian Town House Ground Floor

Our client had always wanted to live in a Georgian town house so when a five storey property close to the centre of Bath came on the market, she snapped it up.

The house was originally built in the Regency period as a business, but it had already been converted into a private home when the client took ownership.

The client wanted the ground floor to be used as a space to welcome guests into her new home.

The hallway leads into a reception room overlooking the street. Two Cristol tiered chandeliers by Aerin from Circa Lighting added old-world glamour and contemporary design to the space. The hand-blown strié glass globes and sculptural, modern fixtures in antique brass bounce light around the high ceilings beautifully.

The reception room was designed to be a bright contemporary room for the family to hang out in. It had been knocked through into an open plan space, but we reinstalled the dividing wall to create a reception room at the front separated from the gym at the back by wedding doors.

The client chose an L-shaped sofa and cushions from Roche Bobois, along with a cocktail table and cinema side table. The Hepworth armchair from Love Your Home, with its soft curves, added a modern touch. The Matsuri Kenzo blue rug was also from Roche Bobois.

The rooms were painted in a palette of Farrow & Ball neutral colours including Bone, School House White and Shadow White. The spindles on the staircase in the hallway were painted in Railings.

We commissioned bespoke Oriental style lacquered cabinets which were spray painted in Little Greene’s Basalt.

Bespoke artwork by Adam Ellis studio was commissioned to fit in the alcoves above the cabinets. Adam Ellis Studio is a London based fine art and design practice experienced in creating unique and vibrant interiors for hospitality and private spaces.

The Rote Brass pendant ceiling light was from Bert Frank. This geometric shade in contrasting slatted diamond plates of brass and black diffuses a dual-sided light into the room.

The pair of Aureol wall lights in bronze with navy silk shades were from Tigermoth Lighting.

The Elona table lamps in brass with a black iron base were from Pooky Lighting.

The little ground floor WC was tiled in Mimica Bianco Ravenna Gold Matt Porcelain from Mandarin Stone and painted in Card Room Green by Farrow & Ball. The basin and fittings were from Catchpole and Rye. The Otto mirror in brass is from Graham & Green. The Calliope hand rubbed antique brass light is from Circa Lighting (Visual Comfort & Co).

In the garden area, we replaced some flagstones and had bespoke timber planters made. The outside furniture was from Vincent Sheppard and Coco Wolf.

The ground floor now provides a fabulous relaxed entertaining space and gym for my sociable client.
