When this house in Bath was built during the Regency era, the top floors would have been used for bedrooms for the family and the same is true today. The third floor of this five storey house has been configured to provide a master bedroom, dressing room and ensuite.
Master bedroom
In the master bedroom we created a design to work around the clients existing Italian bed, chests of drawers and Hampton bedside tables by DI Designs.
The wooden floors, windows and shutters were restored, and we fitted radiators from House of Radiators.
We papered the walls in Osborne and Little Zingrina design in Pale Linen from the Mansard Vinyl collection of embossed wallpapers. The faint pattern of squares was a nice peaceful choice for the bedroom and also harmonised well with the stronger wallpaper in the dressing room.
Above the bedside chests we hung Devon swing arm wall lights with brass arms and tapered ivory shades from Vaughan Designs.
Either side of the TV above the fireplace we fitted Lloyd small jewelled sconces in soft brass and clear crystal by Kate Spade from Circa Lighting.
A large hand-woven deep pile plain Jacaranda Agra Taj rug was supplied by Capitol Carpets in Bath.
Dressing room
In the dressing room, we built bespoke wardrobes and painted them in Cordoba, a deep shade of purple, from Little Greene to tone with the Morris & Co Chrysanthemum wallpaper in Wine. From the archive collection, this design was traditionally printed in 1877 using wood blocks. Today’s version faithfully reproduces some of the earliest colourways whilst introducing a new softer palette with subtle metallic highlights.
A pretty Sprout occasional chair in soft Flushed Cheek pink velvet from Loaf completed the look.
Master ensuite bathroom
The master ensuite is unashamedly glamorous. The walls were papered in the same Morris & Co Chrysanthemum wallpaper in Wine as in the dressing room. The woodwork and ceilings were painted in a neutral palette from Farrow & Ball.
The Deluge high drop toilet, Setinel shower, towel warmer, metal counter top round basin and fittings were all in brushed brass from Catchpole and Rye.
The statement bateau bath with a polished brass interior was also from Catchpole and Rye. We painted the exterior in Little Green paint in Cordoba to tone with the wallpaper.
A Hampton large chandelier in gilt and wall lights in antique brass and frosted glass were from Circa Lighting.
The master bedroom suite provides my client with a wonderful escape from a busy working life.
