The effortlessly chic Pinch design studio was founded by husband and wife team, Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon. Together, the duo creates graceful, modern and iconic furniture – the kind of furniture they would want to live with.
The design studio was founded in Clapham, London in 2004 and since then the accolades and awards (Elle Decoration, Homes & Gardens, Guild Mark, etc.) have been flooding in.
I love the simple elegance of their furniture; the smooth lines, muted colours and earthy textures which evoke cosy feelings of warmth whilst being utterly cool. There is a poetic cohesion which resonates with modern Interior design.
Pinch’s eco credentials are pretty likeable too – they use sustainable materials and all products are handcrafted in the UK. What’s more, their designs are built to last – this isn’t throwaway couture but enduring, lifelong style.
A few of my personal favourite pieces from the collection are;
- The Alba sideboard in brilliant white with intriguing geometric cut-outs.
- The fabulously unique and endlessly practical Post Office Shelving. I especially love the rawness of the lightly oiled oak.
- The sculptural yet organic Beata light in gorgeous natural tones.
The Team Responsible for Pinch’s Classic Designs
Russell Pinch’s began his career as Sir Terence Conran’s design assistant. In 1995 he became senior product designer for the group. After five years with the company he co-founded the multi-disciplinary brand design agency, The Nest, where he also met Oona, his wife.
Oona Bannon’s flourishing career began at age 4. Her first role included building dens in her grandmother’s garden, complete with furniture and lampshades. After graduating, Oona dabbled in television production, hotel reviewing and design, before co-founding Pinch with her husband.
I saw Pinch exhibiting at the 100% Design and Decorex shows this September and loved the pieces as much as ever. I look forward to seeing what the next ten years bring for this exceptional team.
