Domestic appliance makers Smeg and luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana have collaborated for a second time on an artful range of small appliances. This somewhat surprising collection has been getting fans of both brands rather hot under the colour. And it’s easy to see why. The collaboration sees Smeg’s award-winning small appliances intricately decorated in Dolce & Gabbana’s signature style.
The range does a wonderful job of transforming practical household items into works of art. Each item in the collection has been, “Expertly decorated with quintessential Sicilian motifs; gold lemons and citrus fruits, prickly pears and bold, bright cherries. These are framed in traditional triangular Sicilian decorations known as ‘crocchi’. Each model also boasts a selection of delicate floral designs inspired by the coasts and landscapes of southern Italy and Mount Etna, surrounded by ornamental friezes and decorative leaf motifs.” – Smeg

The collection was unveiled at the 2017 Salone del Mobile di Milano but has only recently become available to purchase. At the moment, only the kettle, toaster and citrus juicer are available to buy. And only at selected locations in London. It does look as though a dedicated website will be coming soon though, should you wish to drop £400+ on a new kettle. And the collection will be expanding with a coffee machine, stand mixer, blender and slow juicer also in the pipeline.
This collection comes hot on the heels of 2016’s ‘Frigorifero d’Arte’, the hugely successful first collection by Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana. This was an ultra-exclusive range of just 100 refrigerators, all transformed into unique works of art by Sicilian artists.

The intriguing partnership between Smeg and D&G is based on both brands’ respect for family tradition, the importance of maintaining local roots, and a strong ‘Made in Italy’ ethos.
