ARKET is the latest retail offering from the monolithic H&M group (which also includes high street favourites &Other Stories and Cos). It opened its doors just a few days ago on August 25th and at the moment there’s just the one bricks and mortar shop on Regent Street in London. Fortunately, you can also shop online, which is good news if you crave affordable, Scandi-inspired clothes and homewares.
ARKET means ‘sheet of paper’ in Swedish and the name is apt. The brand offers a fairly small and carefully chosen selection of ‘essentials’ with a distinctly pared-back feel. Their mission is to “democratise quality through widely accessible, well-made, durable products designed to be used and loved for a long time”. Their gimmick-free homewares collection certainly encourages longevity by giving a distant nod to trends whilst steering clear of novelty. From what I’ve seen so far it’s just a really solid range of stylish staples to fill your home with.
If you like the quirky prints and bold colours of H&M’s popular homewares line, you might find ARKET a little too minimalist. But if you prefer muted tones and classic lines, you’ll love their range. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing more from this new company in the future. But in the meantime, here are some of my favourite picks from their current offering:
