At this time of year, interior mags and blogs seem to be stuffed full of pretty pastel colours and floral prints but I wanted to focus on something a bit different. Tomboy style has been catching my eye of late and it’s a classic look that works year-round. I love it’s dark and edgy vibe.
Despite boasting a heavy dose of masculine charm this look isn’t just for the boys. Blending tailored leather furnishings and a desert-inspired colour scheme with a few feminine touches (flowers, candles and soft textiles) creates a gender-neutral look that suits any modern home. It’s a refreshing alternative to some of the more overtly feminine interior design trends.
So, what are the key features of this look? It’s pretty fluid, but dark neutrals like grey, faded black and tan are predominant colour choices. Minimalist and sharply tailored furniture in rich, dark wood mixed with more modern pieces made from uncommon materials (like concrete) prevails. And when it comes to accessorising, I see a lot of faux taxidermy, map prints, cactus plants and leather bound books – think a cool, contemporary Gentleman’s club filled with nature and travel inspired treasures.
