You’ve almost certainly heard of Etsy, the handmade marketplace where talented artists, designers and crafters sell their wares. It’s an enormous site with more than 1.7 million active sellers around the world, as of 2016. That’s a lot of items to wade through. In fact, the site can actually feel quite overwhelming, especially if you’re new to it.
To help simplify the shopping process just a little, I’ve rounded up five of the best British sellers (in the home & living category) on Etsy at the moment. These are the ones to watch:
- Love Life Wood
Triangle wall shelf by Caroline Cross
Caroline Cross, the owner of this Etsy shop, makes custom wood shelving in an “ethically positive way”. Her shelves, which come in a wide variety of interesting geometric shapes, combine the functionality of storage with the form of wall art. Check out her full product range here.
- Jord Home
Beautiful, Scandi-inspired rugs made by textile designers in Birmingham. Each rug is hand-woven using natural materials like pure wool, cotton and animal hide. Prices are extremely reasonable, ranging from £35 for a simple 2×3 foot rug to £550 for a 5×9 foot pure wool Berber rug. Click here to learn more.
- Neon Home
Ice Cream neon sign by NeonHome
From dive bars to stylish homes; designer made neon lights have become extremely popular in recent years. But what sets Jacob Foster apart is that he doesn’t just make some very cool neon signs; he also sells a fairground light kit so you can create your own vibrant installation. Click here to see more.
- Cat’s Ceramics
Hanging planters by Cat’s Ceramics
Lovely, unique ceramics – from planters and vases to ring dishes and sculptures – made by Brighton based artist Cat Brown. Cat uses ancient hand building techniques to create her designs, which are then fired using 100% renewable energy. Small batches and one-off pieces make for truly bespoke products. See her full product range here.
- Kate Broughton
Kate Broughton is an illustrator creating colourful prints and stationery. Her work is very much influenced by nature and wildlife, with many of her prints a modern take on old botanical and scientific charts. Alongside the traditional wall art and notebooks is a fun selection of temporary tattoos and nail stickers, all in her trademark style. Check them out here.
