It seems to be undeniable that our world is getting smaller. By that I mean take just one look in any estate agent’s window and you will see that we are paying even higher premiums for even smaller spaces these days. Consequently as our world shrinks our demand for compact living solutions grows and this is when truly creative interior design ideas are born.
Make Your Mode of Transportation Your Roommate
Efficiency, functionality and compact living is a reality that most people face regardless of whether they are in a flat or a house. In Britain, we also pride ourselves on cities’ walkability and freedom of movement without dependence on a car. Personally my primary, and favourite, mode of transportation is my trusty bicycle. So the idea of bringing a bicycle into the home has never phased me and has prompted many interior design ideas that will meet my needs for functionality and pleasing aesthetics.
Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder
I have always found the aesthetics of the sleek lines and angles of a bicycle quite appealing. The curve of the wheels juxtaposed to the strong lines of the crossbar and the handles remind me of a Cubist painting. So it seems to me to be a piece that can become integral to my home’s style of interior design. Ideas range from simple hooks on the wall that would allow the bicycle to be mounted like a painting or even more elaborate rope and pulley systems that make excellent use of the dreaded ‘dead space’ that many rooms with high ceilings suffer from.
Stylish and Artistic
It would be a shame to deny the artistic and aesthetic potential that a bicycle offers. Whether you choose to mount it on your wall vertically or horizontally it will surely become a talking point when visitors come by. I love how creative interior design ideas are borne out of necessity. Not only is inviting your bicycle into your home offering you greater accessibility, functionality and safety for what can be a fairly expensive piece, but it also provides excellent, aesthetically pleasing wall coverage that is the height of efficiency too.
