We’ve all got one or two necessary, but unsightly, items in our homes.
I’m not talking about that heirloom vase or those curtains you just haven’t got round to updating. I mean things like rusting radiators, tangled television cords, blinking internet routers and overflowing laundry baskets – essential items that detract from the overall aesthetic of your home.
Thank goodness then, for clever crafty folk: people who have DIYed stylish cover-ups for their household eyesores. I’ve gathered up a few of my favourites from around the web to share with you today. Enjoy!
Framed Art TV Cover
Lia Griffith created a beautiful cover for her wall-mounted TV. When the TV is off, a simple piece of art covers it. Lia hand-painted the piece herself, but had a professional carpenter create the frame around the TV. Click here to see the full tutorial.
Radiator Cover with Bonus Storage
Radiator covers are actually available to buy from most hardware or DIY stores but they tend to be a little limited in style. Making your own, or having one made for you, allows you to create something more visually interesting, or practical. Like a radiator cover with shoe storage for the entryway, as seen on the Rambling Renovators blog.
Cord Wall Art
When life gives you a pile of tangled cords, make wall art. This is a really unique way to solve a problem almost every home has. While others hide their cords away behind floating wall panels, you can turn them into a statement piece. All you need is some blank space, a little imagination and a few clips. Wi-Fi Router/DVD Player/Skybox Storage
DVD players, Skyboxes and routers need to be out in the open, for easy access, but they’re not exactly pretty. This quick and easy DIY by Shannon of Sewing Barefoot is a great solution. Instead of bulky black electrical appliances, have beautiful books on display instead.
Litter Tray Hideaway
If you have furry friends of your own, you’ll know how hard it is to keep your home odour and pet-hair free. Let’s not even get into their toilet habits. I love this simple IKEA hack – it’s the perfect hideaway for litter trays; it’s stylish, reduces odour and keeps the mess out of sight.
